内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Geological and paleontological studies of the Pleistocene and younger deposits of the Atsumi Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture including the adjacent area are given in this work. Geological work has resulted in the distinction of three groups, 11 formations and two members of the Pleistocene and one of the younger deposits. From geological evidences and Recent coastal features, it is proved that the entire peninsula was tilted northwards towards the Median Line at a very recent date. It is found that during deposition of the different sediments the sources of those materials and directions of transportation varied from south to east, there being at a certain stage a hinterland in the southern part of the peninsula. This hinterland is considered to have disappeared during the later stages of deposition at which time the influences of the Tenryu and Toyo Rivers came into existence. The geological age of the deposits of the Atsumi Peninsula is thought to range from early to late Pleistocene, although it seems that paleontological evidence for determination of the latest or earliest Pleistocene are lacking, and that a part of the Pleistocene may be missing as inferred from the unconformities. However, that the major Pleistocene transgression was a little later than the earliest Pleistocene is inferred from the major unconformity, development of extensive gravel deposits, their relation with marine shell-bearing sediments and thermal conditions indicated by the fossil mollusca.
