下顎骨と頭蓋底, 上顎骨, 頸椎, 舌骨, 身長の成長増加現象を比較し, それらの相関性の変化を調べることによって, 下顎骨成長現象の特徴を検討することである。資料は, 6歳群, 9歳群, 12歳群, 15歳群, 成人群それぞれ30名の日本人女子の頭部X線規格写真および身長のデータで, いずれも平均的な上・下顎関係を有するものを対象とした。研究方法は, 頭部X線規格写真の透写図上で各部の線計測を行い, 身長データと合わせて各年齢群の相関を求めた。研究結果は, 下顎骨の各部の長さと, 前頭蓋底長, 眼窩長, 上顎骨体長, 上顔面高, 頸椎の長さ, 身長との相関は9歳群を最高に, 以後経年的に低下する傾向がみられた。これは思春期性成長期以後の下顎骨の成長量の予測をそれらの部位と比較して行う場合には, 予測の精度が低下することを示すものと言えた。しかし, 下顎骨と舌骨長の相関は経年的にむしろ高まる傾向が認められ, 下顎骨成長現象の特徴として,
