年齢15歳から21歳の学生664名(男子577名, 女子87名)を対象に舌疾患の有病状況について調査し, 以下の成績を得た。同一年齢の男女間の有病率は, 19歳群の男女間を除く他の年齢群では性差を認めなかった。男女合計の年齢群別有病状況は, 19歳群が最も高く56.1%, 20歳が最も低く40.0%であり, この範囲の高低はあるが, 各年齢群間には統計学的有意差を認めなかった。被検者全体における有病者は331名, 49.8%であった。検出された舌疾患は9種類で, それぞれの被検者全体に対して占める割合は, 舌苔32.4%, 毛舌症19.4%, 地図状舌4.2%, 溝状舌2.6%, 舌強直症2.3%, 圧痕舌1.7%, 赤色平滑舌0.6%, 舌裂と正中菱形舌炎がそれぞれ0.2%であった。なお, 舌苔と白毛舌, 地図状舌と溝状舌等のように, 二つの別な疾患が併存する例も多く, 89例に見られた。これらの舌疾患は痛み等の自覚症状に乏しく, 治療処置を必要としないため, 定期歯科検診の際には一般に軽視されがちであるが, 今回の調査では9種類の舌疾患を検出し, 従来の類似した年齢集団を対象とした調査成績と比較して, 舌苔, 毛舌症,
