Remedial program is one of the most important issues in this situation. There are some students who need special programs before they take university level classes, however others do not. We need placements tests to identify the needs for remedial programs. Northeastern University has one of the most diverse campuses in the US. They have an assessment and testing center. They run three kinds of placement tests and two kinds of English proficiency tests. Every student takes it right after the enrolment. They have Mathematics and English tests, but no content-based subject tests.
