内容記述 The resistivity ρ and the Hall coefficient R_H of n-type natural pyrite crystals have been measured at temperatures from ~1.3°K to ~754°K. These crystals have the carrier concentration (N_D-N_A) from 1×10^<16> to 3×10^<18> (cm^<-3>) and the resistivity from 13 to 0.017 (Ω・cm) at room temperature. The intrinsic energy gap ε_G is estimated to be ~0.73 eV from ρ-1/T plots at ~650±65°K and ~0.77 eV from R_H-1/T plots around 550°K. The donor activation energy ε_1 is estimated to be ~6 meV or lower for several crystals. The activation energy ε_3 (≅10^<-2>~10^<-3> meV) estimated from the measurement below ~10°K suggests a presence of the impurity band conduction. These energies ε_1 or ε_3 (ε_2(ε_1>ε_2>ε_3) is neglected here), which are arranged in order of the magnitude of N_D-N_A, suggest that these impurity levels belong to a same group. One activation energy level, however, deviates from this order. This result suggests that this impurity level belongs to another one. The Hall mobility of most crystals near the exhaustion region changes with temperature according to the formula for the acoustic phonon scattering. The maximum in the temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient is observed near 30°K for several crystals, but not for the degenerate one. The transverse magnetoresistance has been measured as functions of magnetic field and crystallographic direction. Negative magnetoresistances observed at 4.2°K show saturation characteristics with increase in the applied field. These saturation values are arranged in order of carrier concentration and a maximum in this manner is expected at a concentration higher than that of n-type germanium. A crystallographic anisotropy of the transverse magnetoresistance has been observed. The result suggests that a constant energy surface of pyrite may be either of the warped sphere or of the <100>-valley type. An effective mass is tentatively estimated to be 0.2 from ε_1=6 meV and the dielectric constant κ=2.4 (obtained by Gillson). Some characteristics of the d-band model for pyrite are briefly examined from impurity concentration dependences of the observed physical properties.
